Lighting is such a large part of our lives that we so often take it for granted. Lighting is also a very energy intensive feature of our lives. Nearly 1/4 or all the electricity consumed in the US goes to powering our lights. As you can see, we’re talking in large quantities here. Unfortunately, lights are often on needlessly, leading to significant waste. Checkout the accompanying video showing a fairly common and very wasteful outdoor lighting practice. That practice? Leaving all of a businesses’ exterior lights on, even though they’re closed. We’re not talking about leaving a sign light on that shows the name of the company. We’re talking about leaving every single exterior light on. Doorway lights, parking lot lights, sign lights, area seating lights, patio lights, insecurity lights, you name it.
